EP Rinkside Prospect Pool Rankings: No. 20 Ranked Dallas Stars

The Dallas Stars have always had their share of great draft hits. Take the captain, Jamie Benn, who Dallas snagged in the fifth round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. Then there are the big draft failures, like Valeri Nichushkin, who was taken No. 10 overall in the 2013 Draft who hasn’t scored an NHL goal since the 2015-16 season.

Being ranked 20th isn’t the worst thing in the world. I believe some of their failures had to do with the player themselves and player development. I think that’s already improving in the Jim Montgomery era.

The last three drafts have been better and should yield decent results. Not the best in the league but some improvement. Stars general manager Jim Nill is a GM with a passion for scouting prospects as well. That’s a plus in today’s NHL.
