Our seventh and final Canadian club lands at No. 4 league-wide. The Vancouver Canucks have been one of the very worst teams in hockey the last four seasons, so you would expect them to boast a bevy of exciting prospects. And while their U23 core is the envy of a good amount of teams, some misses at the top of the draft during Jim Benning’s tenor have muted things a tad.
The club has made it abundantly clear that they intend on ending the perpetual lottery finish and push for a playoff spot next season. They’ve paid up on July 1 and moved a conditional 2020 first-round pick in what is shaping up to be a banger of a class. In order for this plan to work, they’ll need cheap, impactful contracts forcing their way up in the very near future.
