When the New York Islanders drafted Noah Dobson with the 12th overall pick in 2018, they got a steal. It seemed like a slight drop that day, down three spots from the consolidated industry rankings spot at ninth overall. As fluid as the draft can be, just a few tweaks at the top can change everything.

Everyone knew Dobson would be an NHL defenseman, but it was obvious that the 6-foot-4 player needed to get strong to be able to meet the demands of an NHL top-pairing defenseman.
