Undrafted Free Agent Profile: Calgary Flames add Blueline Stability With Connor Mackey Signing
The Calgary Flames need an influx of cost-controlled talent on their blue line like the rest of us need hockey back. One major difference? They’ve a little control over the situation, and they exercised it to sign Minnesota State (Mankato) defender Connor Mackey to a one-year entry-level deal.
Competition for the junior defender’s services must’ve been steep. TSN‘s Frank Seravalli rated Mackey as the top NCAA free agent on the market and added that 28 of the NHL’s 31 teams had checked in on the 23-year-old rearguard since he set foot on Minnesota State’s campus.
The Vancouver Canucks checked in early. Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported that the Nashville Predators and New York Rangers gave the Flames a run for their money.
