Undrafted Free Agent Profile: Mitchell Chaffee Joins the Minnesota Wild
The Minnesota Wild signed UMass-Amherst forward Mitchell Chaffee to an entry-level contract a couple of weeks ago. The prized college free agent forfeited a senior year with the Minutemen to join the new, younger foundation of the Wild, hoping to get his chance at an NHL role in the next couple of years.
Chaffee made his biggest impression on NHL organizations during his sophomore season, a campaign where the Cale Makar-led Minutemen advanced all the way to the Frozen Four, ultimately losing to Minnesota Duluth in the National Championship game. Chaffee finished the run as Hockey East’s top scorer with 42 points in 40 games, earned the Herb Gallagher Award given to New England’s best forward, and featured on the First All-Star Team of the division.
