Trade Analysis: Toronto Maple Leafs, Pittsburgh Penguins Swap Players, Pick

The Toronto Maple Leafs and Pittsburgh Penguins surprised everyone with a trade. Yes, a real, actual trade in hockey. How exciting! This wasn’t just any old trade; three NHL players moved, along with a first-round pick, and two prospects.

The full deal saw Toronto send Kasperi Kapanen, Pontus Åberg, and prospect Jesper Lindgren head to Pittsburgh for a 2020 first-round pick (15th overall), prospect Filip Hållander, Evan Rodrigues, and David Warsofsky.

This being a space dedicated primarily to covering the NHL Draft and prospects, that’s the part of this deal I’ll most thoroughly cover. Here’s EliteProspects’ analysis of Hållander, the 15th overall pick, and Lindgren.

Hållander is hockey’s equivalent a 3-and-D wing, a basketball term for specializing in three-point shoot
