The EliteProspects Rinkside 2020-21 Off-Season Prospect Pool Rankings: the No. 26-ranked Calgary Flames

The Calgary Flames gave their prospect pool a much-needed shot in the arm at the 2020 NHL Draft.

Eight new prospects joined the organization; two from the first-round of the EliteProspects’ final ranking among them. Those selections were a step in the right direction for an organization whose foundation had started to show cracks from years of campaigning for the Stanley Cup.

It’s a slow process, though, replenishing one’s organizational depth. That even a year of well-made investments at the draft and in NCAA free agency could offer more than two-spot bump for the Flames from last year’s ranking stands as proof.

The lack of clear progress from the barren seasons of 2018 and 2019 still linger as weights around their ankles. The contending Flames only made 10 selections in those two years,
