It’s been a lean, difficult few seasons for the Winnipeg Jets, and largely by no fault of their own either.
About half of their top-four got out of dodge at the first opportunity, and it was the best half of their top-four at that. Their second-line centre suffered what may very well prove to be a career-ending injury only seven games into last season. They their No. 1 centre suffered a season-ending injury one game into the NHL’s Return to Play tournament.
It’s going to take a lot more than one off-season to repair the damage done by the last 24 months. Winnipeg doesn’t even have an airport has as difficult a time as any team attracting top flight players in free agency, and in this sort of uncertain business climate, who’s to say they’d have the capital or appetite to find those players
