When scouts describe the 2020 NHL Draft as a down year for defencemen, they do so with one caveat — that Jamie Drysdale, the top blueliner in the class, is an exception to the rule.

Drysdale, a tantalizing right-shot defender for the OHL’s Erie Otters, has long commanded the community’s respect.

He’s been a consensus top-ten pick from the word ‘go,’ and that hasn’t changed much as we push later than usual into the scouting season.

There is a little competition though, and not many saw that coming. United States National Team Development Program U18 standout Jake Sanderson’s star just kept on rising, and now the two are a mini-constellation they’re so close.

We at EliteProspects have Drysdale No. 5 overall while Sanderson climbed all the way to No. 9. They’re No.7 and 8 on my board.
