Around the AHL: Lukáš Dostál standing tall
Another AHL outing brought another stout performance for San Diego Gulls (Anaheim Ducks) standout netminder Lukáš Dostál on Wednesday night.
Dostál rebounded from two quick first-period strikes by the visiting Bakersfield Condors (Edmonton Oilers) to nail down a 4-3 victory. His 37-save night left San Diego owning a franchise-best 6-0-0-0 start; last season the Gulls dropped their first six consecutive games before roaring back into contention.
Dostál, 20, has won his first five AHL starts, leading the league in that category. His .950 save percentage also tops the AHL, and he is carrying a 2.00 goals-against average.
“There is still lots to improve,” Dostál said of his start. “If it's not a [shutout], then it's still not good [enough].”
