Brandt Clarke stands out on the Canadian blue line at the 2021 IIHF Under-18 World Championship

FRISCO, Texas — It might be difficult to believe when you see his offensive abilities, but Brandt Clarke is, in fact, a defenceman.

He’s now a gold-medal defenceman, and it was his defensive play that head coach Dave Barr felt helped Canada win gold in the 2021 IIHF Under-18 World Championship. Canada defeated Russia 5-3 in the gold-medal game Thursday night at Comerica Center. The 10-day tournament concluded with some fireworks in the championship game when Russia’s Vladimir Grudinin scored on the power play with 10:21 remaining to pull Russia to within one goal.
