When Sergei Bobrovsky came to Florida, there was plenty of reason for optimism. Sure, he hadn't had the best season in his last year with the Columbus Blue Jackets, but that team wasn't especially good and also his previous two seasons saw him net a tonne of Hart and Vezina Trophy votes.
Sure, it was a tonne of money (especially for a guy who seemed like he was always going to that one team) and it wasn't likely to age well. But the guy has two Vezinas and Florida desperately needed a goalie.
