Where do the Maple Leafs go from here?
Well.
No matter what happened in this postseason, the Toronto Maple Leafs roster was likely to look extremely different than it did when the playoffs began. The team has 12 pending unrestricted free agents on the books, nine of whom played important roles for the team at some point this season, or were intended to do so.
There are only seven current NHL forwards on the books for next season right now, and of course, they cost a combined $47.625-million against the cap. The five defencemen on the books? Another $18.52-million. The lone goalie, Jack Campbell, costs just $1.65-million.
So once again, the Leafs are going to be a top-heavy, high-skill team unless something serious happens to the roster in the summer. Which, ahh, it might.
