Film Room: Oskar Olausson is one of the 2021 NHL Draft's most technically gifted forwards
Technically gifted -- that's how one could best describe Oskar Olausson.
There are few prospects in this year's draft whose pure abilities surpass those of the HV71 winger. He has it all -- above-average skating, handling, physicality, passing, and even shooting ability. In a few years, if his development follows the expected upward curve, Olausson should become one of the NHL's most toolsy players.
Will that be enough to earn him a role in a team's top-six? That remains to be seen. But his high likelihood of reaching the top league and his developmental upside make him a valuable bet high in the first round, especially in a draft with so few obvious top-end talents. Olausson's large technical base could allow him to bridge his gap with those talents in the next few years.
Let's deconstruct the details of this projection, starting with his skating.
