Doerrie's Deets: Dispelling the biggest team-building myth

It’s been quite an eventful few weeks in the NHL, and it seems like if you put your phone down to make lunch, there’s a good chance you’ll miss big news. Here I was thinking it would be a relatively quiet fortnight leading up to the expansion draft. Surely a few trades, but nothing crazy.

Evidently, the general managers had their meetings, where it was decided that crosschecking needs to be evaluated, but also that at least major stories had to drop every day this week.

You’ll excuse me for not holding my breath on this whole crosschecking crackdown. My bet is if it happens at all, it lasts the first 2 months of the NHL season, and we are back to business by Christmas.

But what about interference? Given the slashing crackdown a few years ago that lasted a matter of months, there are more than a few infractions that need an overhaul on how they are applied. Perhaps, the easiest way to do it is to adopt the strict line the IIHF takes for all penalties and just as the players do at World Championships and Olympics (maybe), they’ll adjust.

Again, not going to hold my breath. Let’s hit the fun stuff, because my goodness, there is a lot of it.
