NHL Entry Draft 2021

Film Room: Matthew Coronato's exponential development, and what it means for his NHL future

Most prospects improve in their draft season, but few see their game improve exponentially.

Matthew Coronato is one of the few.

Instead of taking a moderate step forward after last season’s impressive 40-point, 0.89 points-per-game rookie season, Coronato went nuclear. He outpaced last season’s scoring with just goals per game. And if 0.97 goals per game aren’t impressive enough, he added 0.69 assists.

As a result, Coronato’s draft stock exploded, going from a potential top-64 pick to a near-lock for the top-15.
