NHL Entry Draft 2021

Film Room: Once a sure thing, Carson Lambos might still be a draft-day steal

Coming into the season, Winnipeg Ice defenceman Carson Lambos was a nearly sure thing.

The second overall pick in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft played massive minutes as a rookie while maintaining his offensive identity. Later in the season, he looked like a top-10 pick with top-pairing potential.

To solidify his draft stock, overall progression was required. If Lambos’ 17-game stint in Finland was anything to go by, progression was hard to come by. Then, his WHL season was cut short after just two games due to an undisclosed medical issue.

With all that uncertainty, Lambos likely won’t be the top-15 or top-10 selection he once looked like. Now, he provides an opportunity for a team to extract top-10 value out of a mid-to-late first-rounder.
