NHL Prospect Report

Examining Joshua Roy's explosive start to the season

Joshua Roy's draft year didn't go according to plan. The former No. 1 overall pick in the QMJHL was supposed to be selected in the first three rounds at the 2021 NHL draft. He had the size, the hands, and the shooting ability to earn it, opened the season-high on a lot of public lists and many anticipated a dominant campaign from him.

But the breakout never came. He dropped to the fifth round of the draft and was selected by the Montreal Canadiens.

While Roy's play improved as he moved from the Saint John Sea Dogs to the Sherbrooke Phoenix mid-season, there were still concerns around his game.

Here is an excerpt from my last report of the season.
