Last week, the WHL held their annual Bantam Draft and their second-ever U.S. Prospects Draft.
There’s something extra tricky about projecting players for the WHL Draft, even with an extra half-season to evaluate players. The gaps in physical development are more significant, for starters. While prospects regularly show skill, even top prospects struggle with execution, often for no fault of their own.
Really, I’m no expert on this age group, but with the WHL Cup becoming the marquee event of the scouting calendar, and just a two-hour drive away, I decided to take the plunge. After countless game reports and video viewings to supplement my live ones, I feel somewhat informed about the age group.
And being informed means that I have thoughts. So here are 10 of the most interesting ones.
