EP Rinkside 3 stars for week 10 of the NHL season

Hey, it’s the end of the 10th week of the NHL regular season. And suddenly, everything feels up in the air.

If there are 32 teams in the league, and those teams can have up to 23 players on the active roster at any given time, that’s a total of… uh let’s see… carry the four… 736 players. Going into last night’s games, there were 73 players in the COVID protocols, according to NHL Injury Viz. That’s one in every 10 players in the entire league, including 18 guys on the Calgary Flames, and not including all the guys who tested positive earlier this season. Of which there are many.

It feels like we’ve reached a tipping point here, and as things usually go with tipping points, it went totally sideways almost overnight. Games are being postponed left and right all of a sudden, players are speaking out that holding games should be off the table, etc.

Those decisions aren’t going to be made quite yet, so we do have a week’s worth of (concerning) hockey to talk about as well.
