NHL insiders have been telling us all season long that Montréal Canadiens defenceman Ben Chiarot, coveted by almost every team with any hope of winning the Stanley Cup, would undoubtedly fetch a first-round pick (and more!) in a trade.
The draw is obvious: Chiarot played top-pairing minutes with the Canadiens en route to a Stanley Cup Finals appearance and checks all of the boxes that the success of the St. Louis Blues, Washington Capitals, and Tampa Bay Lightning convinced teams they need to win. He hits, he plays tough in front of the net, and he munches tough minutes. What's not to love?
