Trade Deadline Profile: Is Jack McBain worth a second-round pick?
Jack McBain took a long look at the Minnesota Wild's depth this season and decided that the team couldn't offer him the NHL spot that he covets.
The organization is already flushed with bottom-sixers and forward prospects waiting in the wings. McBain would have been a welcome addition, an extra piece, a little more depth, but one can't blame the 22-year-old senior for wanting more certainty in his post-college career, a team that will give him an extended look and keeps him in their main plans next season.
As he's a senior in college, the NHL provides him with an out clause. Come Aug. 15, McBain will be free from the Wild's organization, free to explore all his options on the market — if Minnesota doesn't make a move before then to recoup some value for him
According to Daren Dreger, McBain is drawing a lot of interest around the league, so much that the price for his rights has ballooned up to a second-rounder.
Is McBain worth such a high pick?
