Pittsburgh Penguins acquire Rickard Rakell for Calle Clang, Zach Aston-Reese, Dominik Simon, and a mid-round pick

The Pittsburgh Penguins finally got in on the action at the NHL trade deadline, acquiring winger Rickard Rakell from the Anaheim Ducks for Zach Aston-ReeseDominik Simon, prospect goaltender Calle Clang, and a second-round pick.

Rakell, 28, is an eight-year NHL veteran who's spent his entire career with the Ducks since they drafted him 30th overall in the first round of the 2011 draft. Though the Ducks could at one time rely on Rakell to chip in with 50-plus points per 82 games for a stretch of five seasons, his game has fallen off considerably in recent years, though he's bounced back a bit this season.

A pending unrestricted free agent, Rakell is in the final season of a six-year deal that's paid him $3.789 million annually.

Aston-Reese, 27, has potted 11 points in 52 games playing in a depth role for the Penguins while generating among the strongest defensive results in the league. He's a pending unrestricted free agent, playing on a contract that charges $1.725 million against the cap.

Simon, also 27, has chipped in with nine points in 55 games in a fourth-line role. He's a pending unrestricted free agent, playing on a one-year deal for $725,000.
