Film Room: Logan Cooley is an electric offensive talent and one of the 2022 NHL Draft's best bets for a franchise centre
Logan Cooley's rise up the NHL's draft rankings has been something to behold. From a player that many wouldn't have spent a top-five pick on at the beginning of the year to a strong candidate for the top three -- it's been quite the rise for the Pittsburgh-born centre.
It's not difficult to see so many scouts have been increasingly drawn to Cooley's game over the course of the season. The name of the game for this American forward is pace, and what dictates the course of the modern NHL if not that?
He's constantly in motion, and his speed has proven a serious problem for defenders at the USHL and NCAA levels. His edgework is every bit as impressive, allowing him to manoeuvre past the defenders that he can't overpower with his speed, whether it's with a punch turn, a cutback, or a stop. Cooley combines these skills with great off-puck timing and a fantastic set of hands to make for a dynamic offensive player with among the highest upside in the class.
So, with the 2022 NHL Entry Draft taking place later this week, let’s dive deeper into a few of the things that make Cooley so special.
