Golden Knights win against Capitals in overtime
It was a long and winding road for the Vegas Golden Knights on the road against the Washington Capitals in the game on Tuesday. The road side won in overtime 3-2.
Vegas' Shea Theodore scored the game-winning goal.
The hosting Capitals started off strong and took the lead right after the puck drop with Marcus Johansson scoring in the first period, a goal assisted by Dylan Strome and Alex Ovechkin.
The Golden Knights' Jack Eichel tied the game 1-1 late in the first period, assisted by Chandler Stephenson and Alex Pietrangelo.
The Capitals took the lead early into the second period when Trevor van Riemsdyk found the back of the net, assisted by Dylan Strome.
William Carrier tied the game 2-2 late in the third period, assisted by William Karlsson and Alex Pietrangelo. With this tie the game went to overtime.
In overtime, it took 1:35 before Shea Theodore scored the game-winner for the road team, assisted by Jack Eichel.
With this win the Golden Knights have five straight victories.
Washington drops to 5–4–2, while Vegas improves to 9–2–0.
This means Washington are in sixth place and that Vegas are at the top of the standings.
