Sabres overcome disadvantage to win

The Buffalo Sabres lagged behind ahead of the third period in their home game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. But the team overcame the odds to win 6-3.

The Penguins took the lead early in the first period, with a goal from Jason Zucker. Evgeni Malkin assisted.

Josh Archibald scored early into the second period, assisted by Ryan Poehling and Brock McGinn.

Late, the Sabres made it 2-1 with a goal from JJ Peterka.

The Penguins increased the lead to 3-1, after only nine seconds into the third period when Jake Guentzel netted one, assisted by Kris Letang and Evgeni Malkin.

The Sabres narrowed the gap to 3-2 early into the third period when Tage Thompson scored, assisted by Rasmus Dahlin and Jeff Skinner.

Victor Olofsson tied the game 3-3 three minutes later, assisted by Owen Power.

Alex Tuch took the lead four minutes later, assisted by Tage Thompson and Jeff Skinner.

The Sabres increased the lead to 5-3 with 01.36 remaining of the third after a goal from Kyle Okposo, assisted by Rasmus Dahlin.

The Sabres increased the lead to 6-3 with 11 seconds remaining of the third after a goal from Victor Olofsson, assisted by Jacob Bryson. With that Olofsson completed the Sabres comeback. That left the final score at 6-3.

Buffalo improves to 7–3–0, while Pittsburgh drops to 4–5–2.

Buffalo are now in second place, while Pittsburgh is in seventh place.

The Penguins play against Seattle on Saturday at 7 p.m. at PNC Arena. The Sabres will face Carolina on Friday at 7 p.m. at PPG Paints Arena.
