Devils chalk up fifth straight wins against Oilers

Two top teams squared off Thursday, with the road team the New Jersey Devils winning against the second-placed Edmonton Oilers 4-3.

New Jersey's Jesper Bratt scored the game-winning goal.

New Jersey has extended their lead in their division to 16 points, while Carolina sits one point back.

The hosting Oilers took the lead halfway through the first period, with a goal from Connor McDavid. Zach Hyman and Darnell Nurse assisted.

The Devils' Miles Wood tied the game 1-1 in the middle of the first.

Derek Ryan scored in the second period.

Midway through the second period, Leon Draisaitl scored a goal, assisted by Connor McDavid and Tyson Barrie, making the score 3-1.

The Devils narrowed the gap to 3-2, after only 22 seconds into the third period when Miles Wood found the back of the net again, assisted by Erik Haula.

Ryan Graves tied the game 3-3 late into the third period, assisted by Tomas Tatar and Miles Wood.

Jesper Bratt took the lead less than a minute later, assisted by John Marino and Nico Hischier.

After five wins in a row for the Oilers, their winning streak came to an end. The Devils, however, claimed their fifth consecutive victory.

Edmonton drops to 7–4–0, while New Jersey improves to 8–3–0.

Edmonton remains in second place and New Jersey is on top.

On Saturday, the Oilers will play the Stars at 4 p.m. at Rogers Place, and the Devils will play the Flames at 10 p.m. at Scotiabank Saddledome.
