Dallas Stars sign Roope Hintz to eight-year extension.

The Dallas Stars signed Roope Hintz to an eight-year contract extension on Tuesday.

The deal carries an annual value of $8.45 million per season.

“Roope is a dynamic two-way centerman who has proven to be one of the best at his position in the NHL,” Stars general manager Jim Nill said. “He’s developed into one of our most versatile players, making an impact on special teams and at even strength, and can be counted on by our coaching staff in every situation. We are fortunate to have him in Victory Green for an additional eight years and look forward to his continued growth as a player.”

Hintz was set to become a restricted free agent next offseason, by getting the extension done now the Stars avoided a potential offseason signing saga, like the one they endured with Jason Robertson

With the extension the Stars have locked up the majority of their core pieces for at least the next three seasons. Hintz is now signed through 2031, Miro Heiskanen is locked in until 2029. While Robertson and Jake Oettinger both signed bridge deals this past summer.

In five NHL seasons, Hintz has appeared in 261 games, earning 88 goals and 106 assists for a total of 194 points. He is tied for sixth in Dallas Stars history (1993-present) with six career shorthanded goals and is tied for 12th with 18 career game-winning goals.
