Matthew Wood is ready to be the next UConn first-round success

Matthew Wood’s age isn’t holding him back

Wood is the youngest player in the NCAA this season as a 17-year-old and thus far it hasn't been too much to handle. 

“I’m a year younger, but technically next year is my true freshman season,” Wood said. “It’s eye-opening. It’s a lot different from high school, that’s for sure. Everyone is a lot older. Just walking to every class. It’s a completely different atmosphere and a fun experience.”

It started to get serious for him when he was playing for the Victoria Grizzlies in the BCHL. Wood had 98 points in 64 BCHL games. In 2021-22, he had 45 goals in 46 games. He was a point-per-game in the playoffs. After that season ended, he was off to Connecticut.
