The hockey world has been given a treat the last two weeks as the World Junior Championships have been running full speed in Halifax and Moncton.
The WJC is the marquee junior competition and pits the best under-20 players on the planet against one another. Well, most of them anyway.
But even with those omissions, this tournament has a long history of being a hotbed for fantasy hype and knee-jerk reactions to the small sample size. Why I myself have been guilty of overreacting to a strong performance by a prospect and grabbing them with hopes of holding on and one day reaping the rewards of that investment. Inevitably, the tournament ends and the shine diminishes and they’re back on the wire in a few weeks.
