Devils prospect Topias Vilén has turned into a steal from the 2021 NHL Draft
Finland's 2003-born age group has shuffled quite a bit in recent years.
Many of the players who were looking like the most exciting prospects as draft-eligibles haven't progressed as expected. Samu Tuomaala and Samu Salminen were two of the three highest scoring Finns at the U18 Worlds two years ago and neither ended up making this year's World Juniors team.
At the same time, others have made big strides and surpassed many of their formerly more highly-touted peers.
Enter Topias Vilén, a fifth-round pick by the New Jersey Devils in the 2021 NHL draft.
Vilén was already a full-time Liiga player in his draft year, and also put up pretty promising point totals. His eight points in 35 games with Pelicans is good for the seventh-highest scoring season among defencemen since 2010. He also played
