Montgomery has guided the Bruins to a historic season, how has he changed as a coach?
TAMPA, Florida – Make no mistake about it, this is a historic Boston Bruins team.
The Bruins were the fastest team in NHL history to reach 80 points, in just 47 games. Even after Thursday’s 3-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Bruins were on pace for a 66-win, 140-point season.
That would smash the prior mark of 62 wins, held by both the 2018-19 Lightning and the 1995-96 Detroit Red Wings, and the all-time regular season point record of 132 set in 1976-77 by the Montréal Canadiens.
Lightning coach Jon Cooper pointed out on Thursday that his team was fifth in the NHL by points percentage, and were still 19 points behind the Bruins in the standings.
Tampa, in fact, was closer in points to the struggling Canadiens than Boston.
