Mattias Ekholm traded by Nashville Predators to the Edmonton Oilers

The Edmonton Oilers added defenceman Mattias Ekholm on Tuesday, sending Tyson Barrie, Reid Schaefer, a first and fourth-round pick to the Nashville Predators.

Nashville also sent a sixth-round pick to Edmonton as part of the deal.

The veteran defender still has four seasons remaining on a contract extension he signed with Nashville worth $6.25 million per season.

If it wasn't already obvious, the Predators are in full-blown seller mode.

Earlier this week they traded Nino Niederreiter to the Winnipeg Jets, then they made a stunning deal to move Tanner Jeannot for five picks and Cal Foote. .

It's also a busy time for soon-to-be GM Barry Trotz, who will take over for David Poile on July 1.

With this trade the Predators have 21 picks in the first four rounds over the next three seasons.
