Trades we'd like to see ahead of the 2023 NHL trade deadline

It's time for one of my personal favourite pieces we do every year. Ahead of every trade deadline, I like to cook up a series of moves that i'd love to see happen while they still can. This is now the third instalment of the exercise that we've had on this site, with the 2021 and 2022 versions having some interesting results in hindsight.

There were actually a couple of trades sprinkled in there that wound up coming to fruition, but that's not really the point of the exercise. The goal is to identify fits between players that are theoretically available and teams that could really use whatever on-ice value they specifically offer, and then outline a realistic way to make it happen. Even if the trade proposals wind up ultimately amounting to wishful thinking, it shouldn't stop us from trying
