Hurricanes acquire Shayne Gostisbehere from the Coyotes

The Carolina Hurricanes traded for defenceman Shayne Gostisbehere on Wednesday, sending a 2026 third-round pick back to the Arizona Coyotes.

A pending unrestricted free agent, Gostisbehere has 31 points (10 goals, 21 assists) in 52 games. He was making $4.5 million against the salary cap this season.

In an Eastern Conference arms race, the Hurricanes were looking to add some more offensive pop from the blue and originally, reportedly, looked at Jakob Chychrun before pivoting to bringing in the 29-year-old rental.

For Arizona it's another draft pick as they continue to reload.

Over the next three years the Coyotes have 23 picks in the first four rounds. And this pick doesn't even count toward total being a 2026 selection.
