The hockey world's collective jaw dropped yesterday when Chicago Blackhawks superstar Patrick Kane was unexpectedly traded to the New York Rangers, a shocking turn of events that was entirely unforeseen.

But as inevitable as this deal has seemed in the past week it is easy to forget that the “Kane to Rangers” speculation seemed permanently extinguished when New York acquired Vladimir Tarasenko three weeks ago.
