Minnesota Wild acquire Oskar Sundqvist from Detroit Red Wings

The Minnesota Wild have acquired forward Oskar Sundqvist from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for a fourth-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft.

Sundqvist, 28, is a pending unrestricted free agent in the final season of a four-year pact with a $2.75 million cap hit that he signed with the St. Louis Blues in the aftermath of their Stanley Cup win in 2019. Sundqvist failed to live up to that deal in St. Louis and was included in a trade at last year's deadline as part of the package to acquire Nick Leddy. Now, he's back on the move.

His counting stats have bounced back in his first (almost) full season with the Red Wings, but the underlying results have remained dire. Still, he's a physical, versatile veteran forward with a Stanley Cup ring. Those players tend to have value at this time of year.
