Flames GM Brad Treliving pivoted the best he could, trading Tkachuk to the Florida Panthers in a deal for Jonathan Huberdeau and signing Nazem Kadri as a replacement in the space.
He made the best of a bad situation, kept the Flames a playoff contender, but in the end the Flames came up short of the postseason when they dealt themselves a bad hand in April with some embarrassing losses in a year they ended up missing the playoffs by potentially just two points.
