Nowadays, a player who can produce at a point-per-game is a tremendous talent. A core piece for any NHL team.
But they are no longer considered superstars. The days of Jamie Benn taking home the Art Ross trophy with 87 points are in the rearview, hopefully, for good.
What separates the very good from the superstar talents is that high note. The ability to not just produce at a top-40 level, but a top-10. What this series intends to do is filter out the next wave of superstars. We’ll take a player and put them under the microscope and decide if the future is excellent or worthy of even more.
First up, Ottawa Senators' young star Tim Stützle.
This past season saw scoring rates soar to a 29-year-high of 3.18 goals per team per game. Unsurprisingly, average save percentage dipped to 0.904 percent.
