The Florida Panthers wouldn’t be here without Alex Lyon.
There wouldn’t be a historic upset of the Boston Bruins, no sweep of the Carolina Hurricanes, and no chance of even dreaming about coming back from this 2-0 deficit in the Stanley Cup Final against the Vegas Golden Knights.
As Florida pushed for the playoffs in the final weeks of the regular season, Lyon made eight straight starts winning six of them as he supplanted Sergei Bobrovski as the Panthers No. 1 goalie for the time being.
In the first round against the Bruins he relinquished the net back to Bobrovsky after Game 3, but his play in Game 2 of that series, 34 saves on 37 shots, was an overshadowed key moment in Florida eventually winning the opening round seven games.
