Film Room: Calum Ritchie is the 2023 NHL Draft's perfect pick in the middle of the first round
There was perhaps no more difficult a prospect to rank in this year's draft than Oshawa Generals centre Calum Ritchie.
He started the season a projected top-15 pick, moved down to 22nd overall on our first board in December, and then all the way to 29th at the midway point in the process before jumping up to 14th in the Elite Prospects 2023 NHL Draft Guide.
The way he moved up and down our board almost perfectly reflected a bell curve when you map it out, a reflection of the variance in his performance and his range of NHL outcomes.
The 6-foot-2 centre started his season on a high note, finishing as the top scorer at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, a tournament that featured many other top prospects like Zach Benson, Brayden Yager, and Eduard Šalé. That performance set the bar pretty high for his OHL
