One year later, the debates about Simon Nemec and David Jiříček are still heated

Heading into the 2022 NHL Draft, scouting meetings at EP Rinkside were quite intense, with some members defending the smooth-skating Simon Nemec, while others were placing their bets on David Jiříček's potential. As the draft approached, the arguments only grew more fervent.

Ultimately, both prospects were selected within the top six picks, with the New Jersey Devils choosing Nemec at No. 2 and the Columbus Blue Jackets opting for Jiříček at No. 6. The difference between the two prospects was marginal, and their performances during the season, along with their similarities as right-handed defencemen, ensured that the debates continued long after the draft.

Following the draft, both Jiříček and Nemec had an impressive post-draft season in the AHL, playing exceptionally well for the Cleveland
