Unnumbered Thoughts: How Martin St. Louis is making it work in Montréal

There’s a story I’ll always be reminded of when watching Martin St-Louis coach the Montréal Canadiens. 

It was February of 2022, soon after St. Louis had been hired, then on an interim basis, and I was speaking with an NHL executive from another team about the hire. 

This executive had a friend who lives in St. Louis’ old neighbourhood in Connecticut, and St. Louis would often go jogging through the neighbourhood. 

When St. Louis was hired to coach Montréal, replacing Dominique Ducharme, the news was on the television and St. Louis’ headshot popped up with a Canadiens graphic. 

“My friend's wife was walking in the kitchen at the time and stopped him and said, isn’t that the guy who runs through our neighbourhood?”
