Taking Stock: A look at the Winnipeg Jets prospect trade chips ahead of 2024 deadline
Don't let the noise about attendance or the future of the Winnipeg Jets more broadly distract you from the fact that this team is a legitimate Stanley Cup contender this season.
They've acted accordingly ahead of the trade deadline, acquiring Sean Monahan from the Montréal Canadiens for a first-round pick and a conditional third. And you can't say it's not paying immediate dividends, particularly on the power play, where he's thrived in the bumper role since joining Winnipeg.
The Jets don't seem content to stop there, though. They were rumoured to be in on Chris Tanev before the Dallas Stars jumped the cue, and now one imagines they'll shift their focus elsewhere now that he's off the board.
Winnipeg still has almost $5-million in available cap space, according to the good people at CapFriend
