NCAA Tournament Takes Day 1: Denver survives double-OT thriller

A brief recap of today’s NCAA tournament games:  

No. 3 Denver 2, No. 14 UMass 1 (2OT) (Springfield regional)

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Denver will happily take the result, though perhaps wouldn't like to play this style of game again.

For just the fourth time all season, the high-scoring Pioneers were held to fewer than three goals, and it took the better part of five periods to get there, but they eventually ground out a 2-1 double-overtime win against the 14th-seeded UMass Minutemen. Matt Davis made 46 saves in the win, and fought his way through a cramp in the second overtime to do it.
