Frozen Four Game 1: Denver grinds out another win en route to NCAA Championship game
ST. PAUL, Minn. — In the regional a couple of weeks ago, Denver players talked a lot about adapting (successfully) to the more conservative, gum-up-the-works style favored by UMass and Cornell. They beat both of those teams by 2-1 scores.
In the lead-up to today's opening semifinal at the Frozen Four, they talked about how they expected to be served a rather different style of play by Boston University.
They didn't get it, but it ultimately didn't matter. It was yet another 2-1 win for the Pioneers, this one in overtime. Tristan Broz scored the game-winner at 15:51 of the first OT. It was Denver's third straight 2-1 win after not playing in a game that low-scoring all year before the start of the NCAA tournament.
