Memorial Cup 3 Stars: Josh Bloom clinches Memorial Cup title for Saginaw

SAGINAW, Michigan – What a way to make history.

Josh Bloom scored the championship-clinching goal with 22 seconds left in regulation and the Saginaw Spirit won their first Memorial Cup. 

In doing so the Spirit finally vanquished their London Knights demons, playing their best game of the season and holding on for the win. 

Saginaw came out flying on the opening puck drop. They pushed pace, were relentless on the forecheck, clogged up the neutral zone, and held London to just one shot. It was the least amount of shots on goal allowed by a team in a regulation period of the Memorial Cup championship game in at least 25 years. 

And Saginaw was rewarded for its efforts with the opening goal. Owen Beck sent the Dow Event Center into a frenzy when he struck from the slot seconds after winning a face
