After striking gold with Johnston and Stankoven in 2021, Stars happy to bring U-18s back to Dallas

The Dallas Stars cooked during the 2021 NHL Draft

Wyatt Johnston, taken at No. 23, has been the steal of the class so far with 106 points in his first three seasons, and would likely go No. 1 in a re-draft. 

Dallas then took Logan Stankoven in the second-round, at No. 47 overall, and the undersized forward delivered this past season with 14 points in 24 NHL games after tearing up the AHL as a rookie for the first two-thirds of the season. 

In normal times, neither would have been available when Dallas was on the clock. 

But the world was far from normal in 2020 and 2021. 

Johnston didn’t play for the Windsor Spitfires at all during the 2020-21 season because of a COVID shutdown in the Ontario Hockey League. Stankoven only played six games in the Western Hockey League for similar reasons.
