EP Rinkside 2024 NHL Prospect Pool Rankings: No. 25-ranked Ottawa Senators

We've rarely seen eye-to-eye with the Ottawa Senators' amateur scouting department in past seasons – for better and worse. That trend continued to some degree in the first and second rounds of the 2024 draft, right up until the fourth round, at which point everything changed. The Sens may as well have been picking prospects according to our list, as a ton of our personal favourites went their way.

Lucas Elinas, Javon Moore, and Blake Montgomery all represented some of the highest-upside picks available in that range. They’re uncertain prospects, but exactly the type of swings an organization should make in that part of the draft. Hopefully, all three of them will have a sharp development curve and break out in a major way over the next couple of seasons, cementing their status as a B-level prospect and reinforcing this high-upside draft strategy for Ottawa.

The team’s system continues to be one of the deepest in the league. It boasts an impressive collection of prospects, even if it lacks some players with top-of-the-lineup talent. Only Carter Yakemchuk belongs in that category. He’s the team’s best chance at getting an impact player out of their pool in the near future.
