Prospect Pool Rankings

EP Rinkside 2024 NHL Prospect Pool Rankings: No. 3-ranked Montréal Canadiens

The Montréal Canadiens have assembled as complete a prospect pool as it gets.

They drafted an elite forward in Ivan Demidov and an easy-to-project top defensive prospect in David Reinbacher. These two players should join the team’s core in short order. The Canadians also hope to see Lane Hutson and Michael Hage develop into core players alongside them, a pair of more uncertain projects who nonetheless have top-of-the-lineup upside.

The Habs have insulated their top prospects with a volume approach, with prospects like Joshua Roy and Owen BeckLogan Mailloux and Adam Engström. These first two play a highly translatable game, and the last two have the physical tools necessary to one day develop into NHL regulars.

With some luck and sound development, the Canadiens could see a couple of other prospects beat the odds and make their way onto the team.

Montréal is in an envious position, prospect-wise. The next step for them is turning those assets into a competitive team.
